Kaitlin brings up an excellent point. Many times an employment offer fails to mention the subtle but essential details of vacation (paid time off) accrual. While you may feel in a rush to accept a good job offer, it always pays to fully understand the benefits. Sometimes you can get a quick verbal answer from the hiring manager or recruiter when you get back in touch to discuss an offer. I like to ask for a copy of the employee handbook if one can be made available as it typically supplies to answers to many of the questions mentioned above.

What if your employment contract (offer letter in this case) makes NO mention of accrual-- just states that a certain number of vacation days are given. Is one to assume that they can be used up front however the employee wants, and more specifically, paid out for all of them if the employee leaves after just earning a whole new bank of hours on an anniversary date? Again, ZERO mention of accrual schedule in any hiring paperwork.

The US has so many amazing sights that one could spend a lifetime exploring from the fabulous National Park System to the great cities to the backroads of America. It's a great way to know your own country instead of flying abroad for vacations, so yes, promote the USA and keep those tourism dollars at home!

Very cool post! one of my favorite places to go on a flower photo safari is to the local greenhouse where I can take all the flower pictures I want. They have become used to me showing up each spring hungry for pictures of flowers after a long winter of bleak blacks and whites.

Even though I have been going there for years I still always ask and am very respectful of the customers and try to buy something if I see something I like.

Awesome suggestions! You seem to have a point, since career makes a strict schedule out of almost everybody`s life these days. This trend is nowadays known as business tourism. The more interesting the locations are, the better for you to manage and bring your family with you, so you all can rejoice together your spare time on the location.
